AutoCAD glossary

AutoCAD : AutoDesk CAD software.

Attribute : An object containing text that links to a block.

Block : A block is one or more objects combined to create a single object that can be reused in other drawings.

Dwg : Standard file format for AutoCAD drawings.

DXF :Drawing eXchange Format. An ASCII or binary file format of an AutoCAD drawing file for exporting AutoCAD drawings to other applications or for importing drawings from other applications

Entity : Other name for an AutoCAD object.

Layer : Layers are like transparent overlays on which you organize and group different kinds of drawing information.

Object Snap : Object snaps constrain point specification to exact locations, such as a midpoint or an intersection, on existing objects. Using object snaps is a quick way to locate an exact position on an object without having to know the coordinate or draw construction lines.

Polyline : A 2D line or mesh of adjustable width or a 3D line or mesh of nonadjustable width composed of line and arc segments.

Preview : This is a bitmap of the selected AutoCAD file which is displayed in a open/save dialog.
